Standard 2.0:Students understand and use such operations as taking the opposite, finding the reciprocal, taking a root, and raising to a fractional power. They understand and use the rules of exponents.
Student Friendly Language: Us as students can find the opposite, find the reciprocal, take a root, and raise a number to a fractional power. We could also use the exponent rules.
Example:
Exponent Rules
This is the given example for the exponent rules.
First we use the first we use the Product of Powers to
add the exponents of the two same variables(y) together.
Next we simplify the equation to make y^8 by adding
5+3.
Now we use the Power of Product to multiply the exponent
5 into the the exponents in the parentheses on the numerator
of the equation.
Next we simplify the equation by multiplying 3 and 5 and
7 and 5.
Next you use the Quotient of Powers to subtract the
common terms (numerator and denominators).
Finally we simplify the equation by subtracting 15 from 14 and
35 from 8.
