Algebra Standard 6.0

Algebra Standard 6.0: Students graph a linear equation and compute the x- and y-intercepts (e.g., graph 2x+6y=4). They are also able to sketch the region defined by linear inequalities (e.g., they sketch the region defined by 2x+6y < 4).

Student Friendly Language: Students need to be able to graph a linear equation and calculate the x- and y-intercepts.(example: 2x+6y=4). They also need to be able to graph linear inequalities and shade the region defined by the linear equations.(example:2x+6y < 4).

 -x+y=-6

How to find the x-intercept?

(1) -x+y = -6     Original equation

(2) -x+(0)=-6     Let y=0 to find the x-intercept

(3) -x+0 = -6     Multiply

(4) -x= -6          Add

(5) x = 6           Divide

The x-intercept is (6,0).

How to find the y-intercept?

(1) -x+y = -6     Original equation

(2) -(0)+y=-6     Let x=0 to find the y-intercept

(3) 0+y=-6         Multiply

(4) y=-6            Add

The y-intercept is (0,-6).
