Standard AF 1.2

Use the correct order of operations to evaluate algebraic expressions such as 3(2x + 5)2.

Student Friendly Language

I can solve equations or algebraic expressions using P.E.M.A.S

EXAMPLE

10(6+9)+8/2-81= Step 1. Do what is in the parenthesis first and add 6&9

10(15)+8/2 - 81=  Step 2. Multiply 10&15 to get 150

This is what it should look like

 150+ 8/2 - 81=

 150+ 8/2 - 81=         Step 3. Divide 8 by 2 to get 4

This is what it should look like

150+ 4 - 81=

150+4 -81= Step 4. Now add 4 to 15 to get 154 - 81

This is what it should look like

150 - 81=

150 - 81=  Step 5. Now subtract 81 from 150 to get your answer which is 69
