Algebra Standard 7.0
Definition: Students verify that a point lies on a line given by an equation of the line. Students are also able to derive linear equations by using the point-slope formula.
Student friendly: Students can make sure a point is on a line when the equation is given. Students also come up with linear equations with point-slope form.
What is Point-Slope Form?
You are given the point (-3,-2) and a slope of 2.
1. Plug what you have into the Point-Slope Formula ----> y-(2)=2[x-(-3)]
2. Distribute the 2 to the x and -3 ----> y-2=2x+6
3. Add 2 to both sides ----> y=2x+8
What is Standard Form?
Ax+By=C
Now we have to put the equation into Standard Form
1. Subract 2x from both sides ----> -2x+y=8
